Independents’ Day

I hesitate to write about politics, but feel compelled to do so. We have a mess in Arizona, and particularly in Maricopa County. I am a registered Independent, and have been for as long as I remember having “Independent” as a registration choice in Arizona. In the beginning, Independents were not allowed to vote in the primary elections. This changed some time back, and now registered Independent voters can choose a party and vote in their primary. I’ve never done that. Tuesday I will, for the first time.

I’m calling on my fellow Independent voters to head for the polls as well. I’ll be voting in the Republican primary. There is much at stake. Since few Democrats have a real chance in most of the races for the general election, the primaries will be decisive for many critical offices. We can’t afford Andrew Thomas as our Attorney General, or Bill Montgomery as our County Attorney. Tom Horne and Richard Romley are much better choices. I am sick of the Arpaio/Thomas brand of demagoguery. Margaret Dugan, whom I know personally, will make an excellent Superintendent of Public Instruction.  JD Hayworth is a dangerous buffoon too, so I guess my vote will go to McCain by default.

For the other races, I just may follow my friend Glen Mire’s advice, and “vote them all out”.

See you at the polls?
